a visit down memory lane ... old Florida

  Silver  Springs  State  Park

...

back  in  the  late  50's and early  60's

  before  the  mouse  invaded  Florida,

the  big  tourist  draw  was  

Silver  Springs  ( with  Ross  Allen )

and  Six  Gun  Territory

...

my  mom  would  load  us  into  the  old  Chevy

and  head  towards  Ocala..

a  low  speed  limit  and an  old  car  

made  for  a  long  drive  from  Madison.

...

both  attractions  were  spectacular,

but  then  the  mouse  arrived  and 

left  old  Florida  behind.

...

I last  visited  Silver  Springs  in  1986.

 it  was  sad  to  see  what   it  had  become.

...

fast  forward  to  2018  

 the  State  of  Florida  now  owns 

Silver Springs  and  it  has  become 

part  of  the   state  park  system.

...

sadly  it  still  looks  run  down

and  abandoned.

...

two  glass  bottom  boats  make  short

trips  through  the  Springs.

and 

there  is  the  Ross  Allen  Island  boardwalk

where  you  might  see  a  monkey  or  two 

foraging  for  food.
